Inspired by the life and songs of the great American popular composer, Harold Arlen (1905-1986), STORMY WEATHER: The Music of Harold Arlen features performances by some of today's most original recording artists in the worlds of jazz, pop, rock, and blues.
In addition to the highly stylized performances, STORMY WEATHER delves into the fascinating life of a very private man, his public success tempered by personal sadness. The film traces his storybook romance with his beautiful wife and muse, Anya Taranda, as it is transformed into something terribly tumultuous. Above all, STORMY WEATHER is a celebrative showpiece of Arlen's art, surveying a life full of richness, beauty and sorrow.
Arlen's songs are among the most famous ever written and include such hits as: "Stormy Weather"; "Over the Rainbow"; "It's Only a Paper Moon"; "Come Rain or Come Shine"; "I've Got the World on a String"; "Get Happy"; "Blues in the Night" and "Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive".
Featuring the musical performances of: Sandra Bernhard, Debbie Harry, David Johansen, Ranee Lee, Shannon McNally, Eric Mingus, Mary Margaret O'Hara, Jimmy Scott, Marc Anthony Thompson, Rufus Wainwright, Hawksley Workman, and rare recordings of Harold Arlen himself.
